Flood Risk Study for the Lower Susquehanna-Penns Watershed
In 2015 FEMA held Flood Risk Discovery meetings in our area to determine the extent of floodplain mapping needs in our community. As a result of the infomation gathered FEMA has decided to intitiate a flood risk study update for our community. This study in response to requests from our community regarding updates to problems areas and will include the following:
- incorporte of a study of Susquehanna River by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
- updated Zone A floodplains
The floodplain study, scheduled for release in early 2017 will result in updates to the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for our community and our county.
The revised study will provide technical floodplain information on the studied stream(s) to aid in establishing actual flood insurance rates (rates which reflect flood risk) and will provide a basis for our community's management program.
